Re-defining the Ice Cream Ritual

icw_burrp_review.jpgMumbai has a wide variety of dining options in offer for Foodies, but when it comes to Ice-cream the options seemed limited, with the usual flavors that we’ve been used to since our childhood, this proved wrong until just last week when me along with my friend did a trip to this new ice-cream parlour at Girgaum Chowpatty, known as “Ice Cream Works”. Ice Cream Works is a brand by Mumbai’s famous Vegetarian restaurant chain “Cream Centre” ,The Ice Cream Works parlour is just couple of blocks away from Cream Centre - Chowpatty.
We braved the hot afternoon sun exclusively to feast on the ice-creams that ICW had to offer, unlike the usual After Lunch / Dinner ice-cream ritual. The ambience of the parlour with aqua blue ceiling and illustrations gave it a refreshing feel, not to skip mentioning the classy furniture. ICW showcases an expansive menu, well categorized and surprisingly this parlour also serves a limited menu in snacks.
We were greeted by the friendly parlour staff and they offered us three different menus, one for snacks and then the ice-cream menu and the Yogorto “Italian Frozen Yoghurt” menu which also hinted on being a brand in its own.
We started with a Paneer Tikka Sandwich and Penne Arrabiata, both of these being my often tried dishes at the Cream Centre restaurant. We began skimming through the ice-cream and Yogorto menu and were amazed to see the range that Ice Cream Works had to offer, consisting of Handmade , Black Range, Premium Range, Indian Range, Italian Cassata and other Signature flavors besides Parlour Desserts and Yogorto. These consisted of flavors you’ve never heard of before including exotic fruits and ingredients like Passion Fruit, Tahitian Vanilla, Lychee, Mango, Calcutta Meetha Pan , Roasted Nuts, Nougats etc. You are also offered the option to try combinations of your choice and also choose your preferred toppings.
We ordered for a Green Mojito and Yellow Fever smoothies from the Yogorto menu range, they tasted just like they’re named. The Yogorto menu highlighted the fact that these are Low cal with only 1 % Fat content with quality ingredients sourced around the world and also Probiotic Yogurt that boosts the immune system , aids metabolism and digestion and also got to understand that the range is a 100 % vegetarian range. I’ ve always heard from my friends and parents that eggs play a key ingredient in ice-cream making and that what makes it tasty , but Ice Cream works proves this wrong. It’s a daunting task to try out all that they have to offer in one visit with such an enormous range.
The ice-cream menu with flavors like with seasonal fruit flavors like Mango yogurt, Strawberry, Gajjar Badam Halwa, the Black Range with flavors like Chocolate to Die For, Extreme Ferro Hazelnut, Madagascar Choc-o-nut etc, The Premium range with flavours like Creamy Tahitian Vanilla, Limetta Mandarin, Mint Brownie Fudge, Wimbledon Strawberry Cheesecake etc , The Indian Range with flavours like Prince of Dry Fruits, Calcutta Mittha Pan, Nuts about Kulfi along with flavors from couple of other categories are sure to get you stoked, impossible to try all at one go. We ordered for single scoops of Extreme Ferro, Wimbledon Strawberry Cheesecake, Sicilian Pistachio and Calcutta Mittha Pan. All these 4 flavors that we tried had a refreshingly smooth creamy awesomeness that we’ve never experienced before especially the Sicillian Pistachio and Calcutta Mittha Pan. The Irresistible Indulgence by the range that Ice Cream Works has to offer is seriously special. The price range starts at Rs. 38 for a single scoop upwards.
Currently Ice Cream works has two parlours one at Chowpatty and the second one at Shivaji Park , they also have something known as the Ice Cream Works Café situated at The Phoenix Mills which has a much wider range that is offered at the Ice Cream Works parlour, which we are sure to visit next.
Ice Cream works by Cream Centre has truly re-defined ice-creams the way you know it and the expansive range of flavours it has to offer shall certainly get Ice-cream lovers visit to try out the entire range.
